Joan, Director of Commercial, has called Arizona her home for 35 years, the last 17 years as a resident of Gilbert. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English from Arizona State University after transferring from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Her career after college led to over 25 years in sales, marketing, and business development focused primarily in the technology industry. This occupation provided Joan with opportunities to work with exciting clients and travel internationally. Joan transitioned out of technology in 2008 and created her own company, JEK Strategies, a consulting firm focused on creating and building revenue streams for her customers. But, her most exciting venture was when she entered a career in Commercial Real Estate. Joan considers it a privilege to work with buyers, sellers, tenants and landlords in helping them start and grow their businesses, investments, and dreams.
Joan was elected to the Gilbert Town Council in 2005 for a 4-year term. Prior to the Council, during Joan’s distinguished tenure on the Gilbert Planning Commission, Gilbert won national awards for its quality planning process and received the honor of being the fastest growing community over 100,000 people several years in a row. She also served on the Open Space and Trails Subcommittee, the San Tan Freeway development area planning, the Downtown Redevelopment Evaluation, and the San Tan and Gateway Character areas. Gilbert has now grown to over 225,000 people and Joan’s hand print in the many housing and business developments can be seen throughout the community.
Committed to her community, Joan continues to add service to her daily life. Joan’s other community involvement achievements include work with the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, Dignity Health East Valley Foundation, Southeast Valley Regional Association of Realtors’ Government Affairs Committee, Gilbert Sister Cities, the Land Development Group of the 1st United Methodist Church of Gilbert and other community activities where needed.
